Ministry Update - December 2008
CHOICE CHRISTIAN GREETINGS
TO ALL OUR PARTNERS AND FRIENDS!!
Praise God for all that He has done!!
Dear Partners and Friends,
It is with much joy that I send you this wonderful report on the Thanksgiving and Christmas shipments to the children in Appalachia.
As you will see from the statistics below, in spite of the economy, we have been blessed by your willingness to dig a little deeper to help those less fortunate. We currently ship to five locations: 2 in Kentucky, 2 in Ohio and 1 in West Virginia. That is 2 more than last year!
I invite you to delight with me in the Lord over His great gifts! I am praising HIM and thanking all of you our volunteers, who so graciously give of your time, energy and resources to work in HIS vineyard in order that together we might clothe some of the neediest of the needy. I can hear Heaven rejoicing over all that you do in HIS name!
It is my prayer that you will be blessed as you read this report and ask that you please share it with a friend. A number of our new contributors hear about us from you.
As you know, our COAT PROJECT is ongoing. This year we were able to purchase 1000 coats for the children, which were distributed in time for Thanksgiving. We also received 16 winter jackets from contributors and they were also sent to the children for a total of 1016. In addition, we sent 38 fleece jackets/ponchos. We met our goal of 1000 coats with special thanks to two VERY generous contributors!
For those of you that contribute to the COAT FUND, please note that the cost of coats increased to $30.00 this year. That is the first increase we have had in a number of years.
We sent a total of 904 hat, scarf and mitten sets. We also sent 284 sets of hats and mittens and/or fleece hats and scarves and 195 hats and 66 scarves.
The children really appreciate the matching 3-piece sets. We have a knit pattern in the size for the children we support, which you can download from our web site or you may request via mail. Please include a self-addressed, stamped, #10 envelope with your request.
We sent 330 boy’s outfits. A boy’s outfit includes pants, shirt, underwear, and socks. And we do accept store bought jeans for the BOYS ONLY! Sizes needed are 4-12.
For the girls we sent 355 outfits plus 43 dresses. A girl’s outfit includes a dress, or jumper and blouse, slip, undies, tights or socks, hair bow, bracelet, and a little crocheted pocketbook.
A Biblical Tract for children entitled, “Happy Birthday Jesus” is included with each outfit.
We also shipped 186 lovely hand knitted sweaters (over 40 from one volunteer!!), 27 sweat shirts w/hoods, 181 quilts, blankets, afghans & baby blankets, 12 bathrobes, 162 flannel nightgowns w/slippers for the girls and 192 PJ’s w/slippers for the boys, 53 sets of thermal underwear, and a large assortment of infant clothing.
We also included 102 Beanie Babies, 3 dolls with a box of clothing for each, 74 stuffed animals and 300 Santa faces filled with candy
A total of 505 pair of shoes were sent, including a few that came to our office with clothing. Our SHOE FUND is ongoing.
For those of you who contribute to the SHOE FUND, please note that the cost of boy’s shoes is over $15.00/pair and girl’s are over $13.00
A total of 224 personal care kits were sent. These items are very much needed and you may either download a very specific list of items from our web site or request via mail. If you are requesting via mail please include a SASE.
The work of the Lord never ends, and our next shipment is for Easter. The deadline is March 12, 2009!! It is VERY IMPORTANT that your love gifts are received here in Maryland by the March 12th deadline to ensure that no child is disappointed on Easter Sunday. You may start shipping anytime after February 14th.
The needs for the boys are: Pants and SHORT SLEEVED cotton knit shirts in sizes 4 to 10.
The needs for the girls are: Solid color or floral patterned SHORT SLEEVED dresses sizes 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, in designs and fabric appropriate for young girls and slips in the same sizes. We have received requests for girl’s dresses size 10 and 12 so please consider making some in these sizes. Please be sure to mark the size on each garment.
While we remain very thankful for all that we have accomplished through Him, we are prayerful that TLC Ministries will continue to expand to bless additional children; and it is our prayer that each child will come to know Him as his/her personal Savior because of what all of you are accomplishing in His name. We are advised by the churches that distribute the clothing that more than a few families start to attend services after receiving the “gifts.”
To each one of you and to every member of your family I send my prayer that you will have in your heart the joy of the Christmas Season because of the birth of Jesus, our Savior.
I could never thank you sufficiently for your partnership in the ministry, but I do pray that God’s choicest blessings will be yours at this special Christmas time and throughout 2009 ……because of Him!!
It is my prayer that you would seek the will of the Lord in the matter of sending a year-end gift now to help with the needs of the children so that we may begin preparations for the 2009 Easter Season. May His name be praised for your generosity. He will surely bless you according to His riches in glory for your dedication to this cause. If you recently sent a gift, please accept my sincere thanks and appreciation.
NOTE: Don’t forget to check with your or your spouses’ employer to see if they have a Corporate Matching Gift Program. Many double and a few even triple contributions to charitable organizations. This is a way to increase the impact of your giving without giving more.
Because I want to be a good steward of our finances, and with the increase in the cost of postage and printing, if you do not wish to remain on our mailing list, please let me know. Also, if you are planning to move, please be sure to send us your new address.
For those of you that currently download the newsletter from our website at www.tlcministries.info we are also sending you a hard copy of this year end report.
Joyful in HIS service,
Founder & Director
Then the righteous will answer him,
"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in,
or needing clothes and clothe you?
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"
The King will reply,
"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least
of these brothers of mine, you did it for me. "
Matthew 26:37-40 NIV
