Ministry Update - August 2008
CHOICE CHRISTIAN GREETINGS
TO ALL OUR PARTNERS AND FRIENDS!!
Praise God for all that He has done!!
It is with much joy that I give you this report on our Back-to-School distribution in Prestonsburg Kentucky, on Saturday, August 9, 2008. We always come back from these trips recharged as we see first hand the need out there.
This is TLC’s 23rd year and the 18th year that we have been partnering with Pastor Tom and his wife Earlene. They have been very committed to being the distribution point for us and we are most appreciative of their hard work throughout the year. We always look forward to our visit with them.
Again, this year we were accompanied by the clowns, Grace ‘n Mercy and Isayah. They are also dedicated to supporting our ministry and we are blessed to have them join us and minister to the children about the Lord. It is amazing to watch the faces of the children light up when the Word is brought to them by the clowns.
Our friends and committed supporters, Marge and Larry from New Jersey also joined us again this year to help as we set up on Friday and then for the distribution on Saturday.
I would like to share these words from Larry, who quoted Rabindranath Tagore
“I slept and dreamt that life was joy
I awoke and saw that life was service
I acted and behold, service was joy.”
Now, here are the facts and figures on what was sent to the children in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio for the back-to-school distribution.
375 Girls outfits, to include dress, slips, panties, socks, purse, barrette, and a child’s tract. We also had 24 summer night gowns.
293 Boys outfits, to include pants, shirt, briefs, t-shirts, socks, and a child’s tract.
We also had 25 pair of boys summer PJ’s and 26 boys shirts.
All outfits contained a biblical tract for children entitled, “Get a Clue – How special are you?”
621 Pairs of shoes, including those sent to our office with the clothing. (Thanks to those of you who contribute to our shoe fund!!)
328 Personal Care Kits for boys and girls.
This year as a result of requests from Kentucky we shipped 100 packages of school supplies, containing 12 pencils, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 eraser, 1 box of 24 crayons, 1 small notebook, 1 glue stick, and 1 ruler. We also had 120 large notebooks for the older children. In addition we shipped 115 boxes of 24 crayons to the children in Ohio.
NOTE: We serviced over 250 children on August 9th. This was fewer than usual due to the high price of gas. Volunteers were available at the church over the next week so that the children that were unable to attend on Saturday were still able to receive new outfits in time for School.
Just a word here to let all of our partners know how thrilled and blessed we are to have the volume of beautiful clothing that is always donated for the children.
Here is a quote from a thank you note I received.
“The ladies sew such beautiful dresses. I was so happy to take three (3) outfits for a little girl who comes to church on the church bus. Last week she came in a dress way too big – now she will have beautiful dresses (I particularly liked the one with pink ribbon belt/bow) and new clothes that fit for school. Thanks so very, very much!”
Our SHOE FUND is on-going and we would like to have shoes for the up-coming holiday season. The price of shoes continues to go up. The girls are $13.00 and the boys are $15.00 even with our volume discount.
Yes, we will be sending WINTER COATS again the year. The cost of each coat has gone up to $30.00. Although this is expensive these are high quality coats that retail for at least double that amount. Last year we were able to provide 888 coats of which we purchased 850. Our goal continues to be able to provide 1,000.
If you have already sent a gift for the coat fund, thank you very much!! If not, please consider doing so very soon as I will be placing the order in the next couple of weeks. As I said above, last year we were able to purchase 850 and our goal is 1,000. That means we would need to receive an additional $4,500.00 for coats. This is an opportunity for you to make some child warm and blessed.
In keeping with the winter theme, please remember that we have a knit pattern for the hat, scarf & mitten sets … just the right size for the children we service. I will be happy to send you a copy if you send a No. 10 SASE or you can print it from our web site.
ATTENTION: TLC HAS A WEB SITE!
Check us out at:
A copy of this newsletter is posted there. Please share this information with a friend and suggest that if they can’t sew they could consider purchasing boys or girls clothing in sizes 4 to 10.
Or, if they would prefer as some do, they can make a donation to TLC Ministries and we will purchase the clothing here. This is a great way to make a difference in the lives of young people and I am thankful to God for each person who responds. Please make this a matter of prayer as a real need exists for this gap in God’s mission to be filled.
We are grateful to Dr. Stephanie Harakal, one of our volunteers for creating our web site.
Our next mailing is for THANKSGIVING and the deadline is OCTOBER 15th. Feel free to ship earlier.
This year our CHRISTMAS deadline is NOVEMBER 15th. Again, ship earlier if you would prefer.
LONG SLEEVES, on the garments for Thanksgiving and Christmas, please. All garments should have size marked on them.
This is our only appeal for the holidays.
If possible, please send a gift today in the envelope enclosed for your convenience.
With the rising cost of postage and shipping and because I want to be a good steward of the finances, if you do not wish to remain on our mailing list, please let me know. Otherwise, I will look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Also, if you have, or are planning to move, please send us your new address.
Joyful in HIS service,
Founder & Director
Then the righteous will answer him,
"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in,
or needing clothes and clothe you?
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"
The King will reply,
"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least
of these brothers of mine, you did it for me. "
