Ministry Update - April 2007
CHOICE CHRISTIAN GREETINGS
to all our partners and friends!
Praise God for all that He has done!!
I just want to tell you how much I appreciate all you have done and to let you know that as my partner in this ministry, I am trusting God that all your needs will be met in a greater way, whether spiritual, financial, emotional, or physical.
Ed and I have just returned from Portsmouth, Ohio where we visited Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and met Deaconess Deanna Cheadle who is in charge of "The Shepherd's Closet" which distributes our clothing, shoes, care kits, etc., to the needy children in this area.
On Thursday evening we met with Pastor Joel Hess and the congregation over a light supper and then attended the mid-week Lenten service. Just before the service I was asked to share how TLC Ministries began.
On Friday we were present for the Easter distribution and provided approximately 100 new outfits and shoes. Some of the children were in school that day so the mothers and grandmothers registered them.
It was indeed our pleasure to be there and hope to return there sometime soon.
And now for the report that you have been waiting for......
We sent 286 (242 last year) outfits for the boys. An outfit includes pants, shirt, underwear, and socks. And we do accept store bought jeans for the BOYS ONLY! Sizes needed — 4-12.
For the girls we sent 324 (385 last year) dresses with accessories. An outfit for the girls includes the following: dress or jumper and blouse, slip, undies, tights or socks, hair bow, bracelet, and a little crocheted pocketbook.
We also shipped 33 lovely hand crocheted ponchos for the girls, 12 baby blankets and 200 bunny faces with candy.
We have received requests for girl's dresses size 3,10 and 12 so please consider making some in these sizes.
A Biblical Tract for children entitled, "The Story of Easter" was included with the outfits.
A total of 200 (267 last year) personal care kits for the children were also sent. We have a very specific list of items that go into a care kit. You may request this information either at our address or via e-mail at iohnsoncitlc@.aol.com.
We sent 315 (515 last year) pairs of new shoes for the children. This number includes 10 pair that were sent to us with the clothing. Our SHOE FUND is on-going, and the cost has increased to $12.00 per pair.
We do hope that for our next mailing, which will be for BACK-TO-SCHOOL, we will be able to provide many new pairs of shoes for that all important first day of school!!
PLEASE NOTE; OUR DEADLINE FOR THE BACK-TO-SCHOOL mailing is JULY 1st. It would help us if you could send items prior to the deadline. Remember, school starts the first week in August in the areas that we serve.
Some of you have already been asking about our COATS for next winter. Yes, we will be ordering coats for the children. The cost of each coat will be the same as it has been in the past - $25.00 per coat.
We are hoping to order 1,000 coats - 500 for the girls; and 500 for the boys. So, won't you consider helping us with this project? PLEASE BE SURE TO MARK YOUR GIFT FOR THE COAT FUND.
Also, keep in mind that we have a knit pattern for the hat, scarf, and mitten sets. I will be happy to send it to you. We need many sets for this project.
For any information or patterns, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request.
In response to your requests, here is our mailing schedule for the remainder of the year:
JULY 1st - Back To School
SHORT SLEEVES on the garments please! Be sure to mark the size on each garment you make! This is a big help to us.
OCTOBER 15th - Thanksgiving
NOVEMBER 15th - Christmas
LONG SLEEVES, on the garments for Thanksgiving and Christmas, please.
By the way, we would appreciate it if you would send us your e-mail address, if you have not already done so.
Please continue to remember TLC Ministries in your prayers as we continue to reach out to our needy children of Appalachia.
If possible, please send a gift today to help us in our work. We have enclosed an envelope for your convenience. This is our only appeal for the Back-To-School mailing. A significant portion of our contributions come from individuals like you. If you have recently sent a gift, please accept my sincere thanks and appreciation.
As we look forward to the celebration of EASTER, may I take this opportunity to wish all of our partners and friends, a VERY HAPPY AND BLESSED EASTER!
HE IS RISEN!
HE IS RISEN INDEED!!
Joyfully in HIS service,
Founder & Director
Then the righteous will answer him,
"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in,
or needing clothes and clothe you?
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"
The King will reply,
"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least
of these brothers of mine, you did it for me. "
Matthew 26:37-40 NIV
